Our itinerary

1-Day Cotopaxi & Quilotoa

“From active volcano to crater lake—experience Ecuador’s icons in a single day.”

Start and Pick Up

Today we’ll visit two of Ecuador’s most breathtaking natural wonders: Cotopaxi Volcano and the Quilotoa Crater Lake.

Your private guide will pick you up from your hotel in Quito in the early morning. We recommend a flexible but early start, around 7:00 AM, for the best experience.

Explore Cotopaxi National Park

We begin our day driving south along the Avenue of Volcanoes, entering Cotopaxi National Park at 3,200 meters (10,498 ft). Your guide will share insights into the volcano’s geology and the unique flora and fauna of the high-altitude páramo.

Weather permitting, we’ll stop for photos at a viewpoint at 3,600 meters (11,811 ft) and visit the beautiful Limpiopungo Lake, with views of wild horses and Cotopaxi’s snow-capped peak.

Drive to Quilotoa & Toachi Canyon

After Cotopaxi, we’ll continue our journey through the Andean highlands toward the western region of the Ecuadorian Sierra.

Along the way, we stop at the dramatic Toachi Canyon, carved by volcanic forces and the Toachi River.

Discover Quilotoa Crater Lake

We arrive at Quilotoa, one of Ecuador’s most stunning sights. From the main viewpoint, you’ll look down into the turquoise volcanic lake formed inside the crater. You’ll have time to take in the views and explore the edge of the caldera.

Ecuadorian Lunch

We stop for lunch (included) at a local restaurant. You can enjoy Ecuadorian food and have time some to rest.

If you have any dietary restrictions or preferences, please let us know in advance. We will be happy to accommodate you.

Return and Drop off

After lunch, we return to Quito and drop you off at your hotel. We will arrive between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM.

If you’re heading south to Latacunga, Baños, or Quilotoa, we can drop you off along the way for public transport, or help arrange a private transfer (additional cost).
