Drive from Quito to Antisana

We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Quito and drive towards the town of Pintag, located on the slopes of the Antisana volcano. Once we reach the Antisanilla quarries, we’ll ascend to the high plains of the páramo, around 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) above sea level. From here, it’s a short 4 km (2.5 miles) descent to the stunning La Mica Lagoon, formed from the volcano's glacier melt. Take some time to explore the area on foot and enjoy the beautiful views and wildlife.

Trekking Around La Mica Lagoon

After reaching the lagoon, we’ll stop for a scenic trek around La Mica, where you’ll get to see the unique Andean flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including deer, condors, and curiquingues. This area is known for its stunning natural beauty, with the still waters of the lagoon reflecting the snow-capped Antisana volcano.

Start Antisana Bike Trail

We’ll return to the car, gear up, and start the bike ride along the same route we arrived on. The first stretch includes a 4 km (2.5 miles) gentle uphill climb back to the plains of the páramo, followed by a couple of small descents and climbs as we make our way toward the summit. Throughout the ride, you’ll be surrounded by the breathtaking Andean landscape.

The Big Summit Descent

From the summit, you’ll enjoy a thrilling 20 km (12 miles) downhill ride. You’ll pass by open plains, and if you’re lucky, spot deer, condors, and even a bear or two in their natural habitat. The downhill stretch offers beautiful views and a chance to soak in the peacefulness of the high-altitude páramo.
